Artist
Renee Robbins
Renee Robbins creates detailed visual environments that consider the complex relationships
between humans, nature, and the cosmos. Through painting, she explores the dynamic world as
she travels between tiny and gigantic scales in the unseen universe. Moving between the real and
imagined, Robbins’ work brings together microscopic and telescopic views. She positions hybrid
flora/fauna within a space that simultaneously evokes the deep sea and the night sky. By creating
associations between things that are seemingly disparate, such as plankton and stars, her work
brings questions or sparks a curiosity about the universe. This abstract space is luminously
populated with dots, circles, and hieroglyphic-like marks. In this way, her art reflects biodiversity
and suggest a sense of our place within the natural world while creating a sense of wonder.
Commission Options:
1. Select one or more source materials to use as inspirations for a painting that have particular
significance. The source material could be one or more of (but not limited to) the following:
molecule, cell, plant, flower, specimen, creature, carnival ride, geological formation, national park,
vacation, map, star constellation, planet, or celestial body. Robbins will layer and combine the
sources abstractly into a special work of art that reflects the artist and patron collaboration.
2. Select a specific work, or a series from the artist’s website that resonates. We can use that as a
starting point to begin a conversation about an individualized commission.
