Zakkiyyah Najeebah is a Chicago-based visual artist, educator, and independent curator. While in the Jackman Goldwasser Residency, Zakkiyyah plans to experiment with print making, photography and digital media to address the politics and aesthetic values of representation, inclusivity, black womanhood, queerness, family histories, and collective narratives. Often her work takes place in the realm of portraiture, documentation, image-making, and educating. Zakkiyyah is also a Co-founder of CBIM (Concerned Black Image Makers): a collective driven project that prioritizes shared experiences and concerns by lens based artists of the Black diaspora. She will activate her studio with regular CBIM sessions open to the public throughout the residency.
