Bianca Bernardo (b.1982, Rio de Janeiro) is an artist developing hybrid practices between performance, education, curatorship and cultural administration. Her practice is collaborative and she works with artists and independent art spaces between the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Lisbon, Buenos Aires, and Cidade do Mexico. She is currently the cultural manager of the independent art space SARACURA in Rio de Janeiro.
Since 2010 Bernardo has been involved in educational projects in cultural institutions. She was part of the Experimental Nucleus for Education and Art at the Museum of Modern Art, Rio de Janeiro from 2011-2013. During her time there, she explored the concepts of transparency and boundaries between an artistic practice and educational one through engaging critical discourse around the architecture and surrounding space of the museum. She also coordinated the education program, including residencies, at the Museum of Contemporary Art Bispo Rosário named after the outsider artist Bispo Rosário, with a specific focus on mental health institutions and practices.
Bernardo’s work has been recently exhibited at Break Up Project Space, Zak Gallery (Siena-Italy, 2012), 47th Salon of Plastic Arts Pernambuco (Museum of Modern Art Aloisio Magalhaes, Recife, 2012) and SIART Biennial (Tambo Quirquincho Museum, La Paz-Bolivia, 2011).
She received a Master of Arts from Ppgartes-UERJ (Arts program at State University of Rio de Janeiro).
