Intersectional Touch highlights the multilayered art practices and a genuine interest in humanity demonstrated by this year’s artists participating in the 2019 Center Program. The program is the Art Center’s professional development initiative for artists ready to challenge their art work through experimentation, research, and critique while growing their peer community during a six-month course.

About Juarez Hawkins
Juarez Hawkins is an artist, educator and curator based in Chicago. As an artist participant in the 2014 Center Program class, Hawkins respects and values the process of the program to encourage artists to take a new leap in their practice. As Co-Curator of Gallery Programs at Chicago State University, she has organized exhibitions from the permanent collection, as well as student work and established artists including Richard Hunt and Marva Lee Pitchford Jolly. She received a B.A. from Northwestern University, and her M.A. from Columbia College Chicago. She recently curated the exhibition Bill Walker: Urban Griot at Hyde Park Art Center in 2018 in conjunction with the Terra Foundation’s Art Design Chicago initiative.
