APPLICATIONS FOR 2021 NEW EDITION ARE CLOSED.
New Edition is a newer Professional Pathways program, offered exclusively for alums of Center Program and Ground Floor – two of the Art Center’s capstone programs for emerging artists. New Edition challenges a group of 10 artists to:
• Add a new medium to their toolbox by taking a Fall 2021 course at Hyde Park Art Center (registration opens Sept 20th for in-person and online courses)
• Create new works that expand their practice while building on individual artist’s own history
• Participate in weekly (in-person) seminars on Thursdays 6-8pm, October 7th to December 15th, 2021. Program will switch to online seminars if needed due to Covid19.
• Exhibit in Kanter McCormick Gallery, as part of program exhibition from January 15th to March 6th, 2022
IMPORTANT UPDATE: The Art Center will require proof of vaccination for any class-taker enrolled in an in-building program beginning Fall Term 2021. Class takers will have the alternative option to provide negative COVID tests performed within 72 hours prior to any building entry. This change will enable us to safely increase our capacity for in-person programs and offer more expansive open studio hours while promoting the safety and well-being of our entire studio community. We will continue to mandate masks and distancing to minimize transmission risk and will continue to offer reduced-capacity open studio hours and classes for high risk individuals.
Led by curator and educator Claudine Ise, this program is for artists looking to thoughtfully experiment in a another medium that they have never before seriously attempted. The art course, coupled with group critiques, will result in an exhibition at HPAC that presents the new work alongside previous work – all curated by Ise inside of Gallery 5 at Hyde Park Art Center.
Claudine Isé is a writer, curator, and educator who is the owner and director of Goldfinch, a contemporary art gallery in Chicago. She began her career as an assistant curator at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, then moved to Columbus, OH, to become the associate curator of exhibitions at the Wexner Center for the Arts. In Chicago, Isé has written extensively on contemporary art and culture for publications such as artforum.com, Chicago magazine, the Chicago Tribune, Bad at Sports, New City; she was also the Editor of the Art21 Blog. She is a Lecturer in the Graduate Painting and Drawing Dept. at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and previously taught in the School of Art and Art History’s Museum and Exhibition Studies Program (MUSE) at the University of Illinois-Chicago. She is the former Director of the Freeark Gallery + Sculpture Garden at the Riverside Arts Center and has a PH.D. in Film, Literature, and Culture from the University of Southern California.
Tuition is $500 for New Edition, which includes 10 seminar meetings, a Fall 2021 class at HPAC (8 weeks), and participation in the program exhibition. Registration form for NEW EDITION is located below, and spaces will be given out on a first-come first served basis! Once you fill out the registration form, we will notify you asap to confirm your participation, and to confirm the HPAC course you have been added to. The max number of artists for this program is 10, and we will have a short waiting list if needed. But remember, the only requirement to register is you have to have previously completed either Center Program or Ground Floor.
