ARTSHOP

Artshop is a tuition-free, independent projects program designed for South Side high school artists (grades 9-12).

This class will use multimedia such as painting, ceramics, and more to look deeper into the prominent issues of our times, and how artists have used art in protest and social justice movements. Projects will explore working together to create awareness and transform communal practices.

This program requires teens to complete an application form (below). Applicants are asked to present a vision for what they will work on. How many pieces will you be aiming to complete? Using what media? What meaning? What supplies will you require? How would you like the final project to look?  Teaching Artists, Assistance, guest visitors, and Art Center staff will help support your vision. Attendance and active participation are a large part of this program, so if accepted, teen artists must work with parents and school schedules to plan ahead and participate responsibly.

Accepted teens will have access to free materials and equipment guided by a teaching artist and assistant mentor for exhibition, portfolio, artist statement, and a better understanding of what it means to be a contemporary artist.
