For this commission, I envision working collaboratively with a patron to create a finished portrait, group portrait, or figurative work of art. The image could be executed either in traditional oil paint, like The Garcia Family group portrait reproduced in my image list, or as a digital painting, like the work samples titled Morgan in Blue and Gold Paint, DaLawn, Aisha as Allegory of Day, and Stephanie as a Witch.
The Garcia Family group portrait is a recent commission. For this painting, I met with the Garcias in their home and took a series of photos that I could then take back to my studio to blend together into an image that emotionally and psychologically connected the three members of the family. My intention was to create an oil painting that told the story of their love for one another – particularly their young son – in a candid and unself-conscious moment between mother, father, and child.
For Not Just Another Pretty Face, 2023, I would be happy to work in a similar way, or collaborate with a patron on another method for delivering a new piece. As an artist who works primarily with the human form, I am constantly in awe of the various stories that can be told through the body, and how personality and character can be communicated through facial expressions, physical gestures, and other impactful details. Figurative painting and portraiture open up opportunities for infinite variety and reinvention, and I look forward to the process of collaborating with a patron to create an original work of art.
