My interdisciplinary practice explores the nuance of the immaterial and the physical, where the magic of a universal life force seems palpable. The observation of mundane objects, meditation on everyday experiences, and intuition are the navigational tools that drive my work.
Presently, the focus of my practice consists of juxtaposing and intertwining artificial-intelligence (AI) generated images with ceramic paintings and sculptures. Using programs like ArtBreeder and DALL-E, I interpret and modify visual genes to create images reminiscent of many things, yet escape identifiability. Some forms generated using the AI programs are reiterated into my ceramic paintings and sculptures. Then I re-insert the motifs from the clay creations back through the AI process to generate new images. This loop of transforming forms through a two-dimensional media (something quite intangible and fluid) and again through ceramics (a very physical medium) guides me to meditate on the constant fluctuations surrounding the immaterial and the physical.
This process blurs the distinction between the physical and intangible and fuels the following questions: What exists beyond the tangible? Does the magic of a moment, a place, an object, or a person lie in their physical or spiritual quality, a combination of both, or beyond them entirely? What influences our ability to differentiate between something being singular versus being part of a whole?
I embrace the many possibilities collaboration brings to my creative process and am excited by the endless methods of activating new spaces with AI / ceramic arrangements.
