Matthew Owen Wead
Matthew Owen Wead’s work employs an interdisciplinary approach focusing on the theme of adversity, particularly for overlooked people and communities. Using adversity as a center point, his work explores subject matter involving identity, personal narratives, critical history, memory, language and tradition. With a background in printmaking, Wead’s practice draws on the history of the art form and its techniques to create works that investigate the idea of resilience in form, subject matter, materiality. Essential to Wead’s work is an engagement that seeks to impart an understanding of the shared human experience.
